Do you have white spots on your teeth that have been bothering you?
Spots on teeth can feel like a major issue, especially if they’re in an easily visible area, like your front teeth. At Space Age Smiles, we offer a noninvasive, nonsurgical procedure for correcting white spots on teeth.
Have you heard of ICON resin infiltration?
If you are thinking about getting a cosmetic dentistry procedure, like veneers or tooth crowns, ICON resin infiltration may be a good alternative for you.
In this blog, we will discuss ICON resin infiltration as a non-surgical option for cosmetic dental procedures.

White spots on teeth can appear for a variety of reasons.
Here are some of those possible reasons:
Bacterial Overgrowth – As unappealing as it may sound, our mouths are perfect places for bacteria to thrive. When you don’t practice regular oral hygiene, too much bacteria can grow on your teeth, which is known to cause the white spots that you may be experiencing.
Fluorosis – Fluorosis is overexposure of fluoride to the teeth and is mainly limited to children whose teeth are still developing. This condition is not usually caused by overbrushing, but from consuming too much fluoride.
A low-calcium diet – Not consuming enough calcium can result in white spots on the teeth because the enamel is not strong enough. To avoid this situation, try eating a high-calcium, low acid diet. Foods that can help include cheese, many kinds of nuts, including almonds, and lots of greens.
Braces – If you had braces, white spots can appear around where the brackets were glued to your teeth. And although these may disappear over time, poor oral hygiene can make them more prominent.
High fevers and medications – If you suffered from a high fever or have been taking medications like amoxicillin, your enamel may be weakened enough to allow white spots to form. This is far more likely to develop in children who had a fever or took the medication while their teeth were developing.
Smoking during pregnancy – If your mother smoked tobacco while she was pregnant with you, you might have a condition called “enamel hypoplasia,” which results in white spots on the teeth.
In the past the only way to treat unwanted white spots on the tooth surface was by drilling them out, and filling them with a composite material, or masking them with a porcelain crown or porcelain veneer.
Now, with the new resin infiltration system, we are able to remove these white spot lesions in one simple, painless treatment that doesn’t require any drilling! This treatment can be done in one visit and in less than one hour.
White spots on teeth treated by Icon take on the appearance of the surrounding healthy enamel. This provides a highly esthetic alternative to traditional cosmetic dentistry surgery, all in one simple treatment, with no drilling!
WHAT IS ICON?
Resin infiltration is a minimally invasive restorative treatment for white-spot lesions on the tooth surface. The procedure is done in one easy office visit to our Clear Lake dental office. There is no drilling involved and the process is completely non-invasive, so we don’t need to use any numbing solution, which means no shots or needles.

First, we prepare your tooth with a process that will help the resin bond with the tooth surface. Dr. Darcey will repeat this step as necessary, depending on your unique case. The tooth will be isolated and kept dry. This is necessary for the solution to work properly. Next, the ICON resin infiltration solution is placed on your teeth, left on for a few minutes of processing time and then cured with a light. She will expertly apply the solution to get your desired results. The total process takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
ICON resin infiltration can also be used on teeth that are showing early signs of tooth decay. You may never need another filling if you use resin to prevent bad cavities. Ask us at your next dental appointment at Space Age Smiles in Houston.
Using resin infiltration is much less invasive and less expensive than the alternatives of fillings or veneers. There is no loss of healthy tooth structure, no need for pain management, and it’s completed in one convenient dental visit.
We’re excited to now offer ICON resin infiltration at Space Age Smiles. Call our Houston dental office to schedule your appointment today.
